MONTEVERDE TROPICAL CLOUDFOREST RESERVE
Approximately 3.5 km (2 miles) from the Institute. The most popular tourist attraction in Monteverde, the Reserve is an excellent place to view the biodiversity that the rainforest has to offer. The forests and its regrowth harbor a variety of plant, animal, and insect species.

Located next to the Monteverde Institute. Very popular with students.
The volcano Arenal is located in the town of Arenal, which is approximately 4 hours from the Institute. Students can arrange accomodations that can range from inexpensive to very expensive. You can buy a pass for the day which allows you to use the resort facilities. The resort overlooks the volcanoes and has many hotsprings to swim in.
Approximately an hour from the Institue. Best to go in a group. Can be arranged in Santa Elena.
An alternative to the sky trek is the sky walk–a catwalk in the canopy for viewing. This costs less than the sky trek.
Approximately 1 hour walk from the Institute. Is near Cerro Plano. The blue morphos butterfly is very well-known in Costa Rica.
Approximately 1 hour walk from the Institute. Entrance is near Cerro Plano. Depending on the time and season, the park is free. Can arrange for guided tours which cost more.
Can be arranged in Santa Elena, next to Morphos Restaurant.
